Your Emergency, Our Priority 

Holy Cross Health offers 24/7 emergency care at two convenient locations – Silver Spring and Germantown. Our expert team of board-certified emergency physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses and skilled clinicians treats everything from sports injuries and broken bones to life-threatening conditions such as heart attacks and strokes. 

As a regional referral center, Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring offers advanced care for complex cases, as well as specialized services for children and seniors.  

Both Emergency Departments are designated Primary Stroke Centers, equipped and staffed for fast, effective stroke treatment – with support from our dedicated Stroke Rapid Response Team.

At Holy Cross Health, emergency care means people caring for people. While critical cases are prioritized, every patient is treated with urgency, compassion and respect – from arrival and triage to the waiting room and treatment. If you need to wait, we continuously monitor your condition and are ready to respond.

  • Signs of a heart attack, such as shortness of breath or chest pain that may radiate to arms, neck, jaw or back.
  • Signs of a stroke include one-sided numbness or weakness, vision changes, trouble speaking or understanding and/or a sudden, severe headache.

The emergency care team at Holy Cross Hospital treats a wide range of conditions, providing both traditional emergency care and innovative, specialized services – including the programs listed below and more: 

  • Focused Care – streamlined care for less serious medical issues.
  • Primary Stroke Center – as designated by The Joint Commission and the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services System (MIEMSS).
  • Dedicated Pediatric Emergency Center – tailored to the unique needs of children.
  • Seniors Emergency Center – the first focused service of its kind in the nation.
  • Cardiac Intervention Center – as designated by MIEMSS, with capabilities to treat the most severe type of heart attack (STEMI).

Holy Cross Germantown Hospital – Germantown

Easy access from I-270 and Montgomery College

Holy Cross Germantown Hospital is the only full-service 24/7 emergency room in Germantown, treating patients of all ages, including:

  • Acute care for critical injuries or medical emergencies.
  • Focused Care – rapid diagnosis and treatment of less serious medical issues.
  • Primary Stroke Center – as designated by The Joint Commission and the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services System (MIEMSS).
  • Emergency psychiatric care and crisis intervention, with admission to the hospital’s inpatient adult Behavioral Health Unit if needed.
