This innovative model of "virtual care" streamlines care, consultation and decision-making, which benefits patients, physicians and family members.
Holy Cross Hospital is on the leading edge of this virtual communication revolution, currently applying this approach in its neuroscience program. For example, virtual care enables Emergency Center physicians to communicate virtually with off-site neurologists and others to involve specialists in the care of stroke patients early in the process.
The goal is to bring this model to many specialties and clinical contexts, both within and beyond the hospital or clinic settings. The future holds seemingly limitless possibilities for this technology and how it can be applied toward improving health care delivery for all patients, whether in the hospital, in our community care clinics, in nursing homes or even in the patient's home.
The virtual communication tools offered at Holy Cross Hospital are used not only by clinicians, but also by patients and family members. Virtual visiting is a complimentary service of the hospital that uses the Internet to connect patients age 65 and older with family and friends who are unable to visit them at the hospital in person.
