Individuals who complete their PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency at Holy Cross Hospital shall be highly qualified independent practitioners able to provide pharmaceutical care in Critical Care, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Pediatrics, Oncology, General Medicine, and various other environments.
They shall be responsible for drug therapy outcomes as an integral member of the multi-disciplinary health care team. Such pharmacists will be able to develop their own personal plan for professional development.
They will be able to educate patients, health care professionals, and the public on the monitoring, delivery, safety, and appropriate use of medications and communicate this information effectively.
Pharmacists completing this program will be capable of conducting their practice with a high level of maturity and leadership, and be able to perform practice-related research.
Finally, they will develop a high-level of professionalism and compassion for patients consistent with Holy Cross Hospital’s ministry.
The Holy Cross Hospital PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program is designed to help pharmacists transition from the role of student to the role of a general clinical pharmacy practitioner or to become well prepared to pursue a PGY-2 residency training in a focused area.
Pharmacists choosing to pursue residency training set themselves down a different career path, one that has potential for greatly increased job satisfaction and, more importantly, better patient care.
The PGY-1 residency at Holy Cross Hospital is a rigorous and intentional advanced training program for motivated individuals. At the same time, the residency program is customized for each individual resident. Rotations selected and learning activities undertaken are all oriented toward the individual resident’s learning needs.
Pharmacy residents who fail to complete program requirements and comply with all conditions of the residency program shall not be awarded a certificate of completion of the residency program. Please view program requirements.
