Program Provides Specialized Treatment of Brain Conditions

The team of the comprehensive brain care program evaluates, diagnoses and treats adults with a variety of brain conditions - including illness and injury, as well as vascular and structural brain abnormalities.

Conditions Treated by the Brain Care Program Team:

  • Brain Tumors
    o Primary brain tumors
    o Metastatic brain tumors
    o Pituitary tumors
    o Low- and high-grade gliomas
    o Glioblastoma multiforme
    o Intracranial metastasis
    o Meningioma
    o Spinal metastasis
    o Intramedullary tumors
    o Astrocytoma brain tumors
    o Acoustic neuroma

  • Vascular Brain Disorders
    o Arteriovenous malformations, also called cerebral arteriovenous malformations
    o Cavernoma, also called cerebral cavernous malformation
    o Arteriovenous fistula
    o Cerebral aneurysm, including berry aneurysm

  •  Brain Injury 
    • Severe traumatic brain injury
    • Mild traumatic brain injury (symptoms of concussion)
    • Anoxic brain injury (oxygen deprivation)       
    • Cerebral hematoma
  • Structural Brain Condition
    • Chiari malformations
  • Hydrocephalus


Some patients who are first evaluated by the brain care program team will be referred to other Holy Cross Hospital services for consultation and further diagnosis. These may include:

  • Epilepsy Center: Psychogenic non-epileptic seizures, febrile seizures
  • Stroke Center
  • Spine Center Spinal tumors, spinal cord injury
  • Nervous System Program: Trigeminal neuralgia, fibromyalgia
