GATE Institute:
Training Tomorrow’s Surgery Experts

It is natural to be concerned about physician expertise before undergoing any type of surgery or procedure. At Holy Cross Hospital, we offer an extra reassurance. Holy Cross Hospital has a specialized training center for physicians who perform minimally invasive procedures. Additionally, many of these surgeons go on to train other surgeons from around the country.

Expertise
Since 1998, the GATE Institute of Holy Cross Hospital has trained thousands of physicians and other medical professionals from hospitals all over the country. The GATE Institute’s nationally recognized faculty members combine hands-on surgical instruction with telemedicine and videoconferencing to bring the benefits of minimally invasive surgery to physicians and their patients across the nation.

Experience
Almost 20 years ago, the GATE Institute began with what was then the latest technology and advanced endoscopically equipped surgical stations. For years this setting allowed physicians to gain hands-on knowledge, understanding and experience in specific techniques and proper usage of new equipment and technology.

Advancement
With major upgrades in technology and training stations throughout the years, this still rings true today. However, the GATE Institute has taken its commitment to the advancement of minimally invasive surgery even further. Thanks to videoconferencing, live surgeries taking place in operating rooms at Holy Cross Hospital can be viewed in high-tech classrooms in the hospital’s state-of-the-art Professional and Community Education Center.

Education
During an operation, the surgeon can interact directly with the physician audience in the classroom. As the surgeons perform an operation, they can explain what they are doing and why, and observers may ask questions – all in real time. This feature provides cutting-edge, comprehensive medical education in a safe and cost-effective manner. In addition to hands-on training, telemedicine and videoconferencing, the GATE Institute enables surgeons to significantly expand their knowledge and practice base in multiple disciplines through educational workshops, conferences and symposiums.
