Holy Cross specializes in vertebroplasty procedures that correct spine fractures. This minimally invasive, outpatient procedure involves injecting bone cement into the fractured bone. Here’s how it works: A thin needle is inserted through the skin into the fractured bone. A bone cement is injected.
The cement hardens, which stabilizes the bone and prevents further collapse. In addition, the pain caused by bone rubbing against bone is relieved, often immediately or very soon after the procedure. Men and women with bone loss as a result of osteoporosis are often good candidates for this procedure.
