Senior Services
Virtual Visiting
Often in times of emergency or during a hospital stay,
family and friends cannot always be physically present at the hospital
bedside to comfort their loved one. We know that the patient feels better
if family and friends are accessible and in touch. Virtual Visiting is
a free service designed to fulfill this need.
The Virtual Visiting program
at Holy Cross Hospital uses today’s technology to provide live “virtual
visits.” This allows patients to be in contact with family and friends
who are unable to visit or may be separated by distance – keeping
friends and families linked across miles and generations.
Virtual Visiting
provides real-time viewing of the patient and allows the ability to
speak simultaneously over the internet. Friends and family members only
need a computer and internet connection.
This is a complimentary service
offered free to senior patients at Holy Cross Hospital. A virtual visit
can be requested by the patient, a loved one or a member of the care
team.
Virtual visitors can communicate with their loved ones
who are patients at Holy Cross Hospital. Patients can share the progress
being made and provide updates on treatment. Virtual Visiting gives patients
and their loved ones peace of mind by improving communication within the
family circle and helping to coordinate efforts to improve outcomes.
All
virtual visits are confidential and thus compliant with the Health
Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
How it Works
Virtual
Visiting is simple to implement, needing only a computer and internet
access. Relatives and friends of the patient are sent a password to
securely access the virtual visit from the go-to-meeting website. After
logging on, images are captured by a digital web camera in real-time
and communication begins.
Benefits
- improves
the quality of the hospital stay for the patient
- reduces the stresses
and concerns of the patient’s loved ones who are unable to
visit in person
- increases communication among patients, families
and friends
Appointments for a “virtual visit” can be made with
the virtual visiting coordinator, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m.
