Holy Cross Hospital offers comprehensive, multidisciplinary palliative care for patients with serious, life-limiting illnesses such as cancer, congestive heart failure, chronic lung disease, end-stage kidney disease, and dementia.
The palliative care department is a team of professionals consisting of medical doctors, nurse practitioners, pastoral care, pharmacology and administrative support services. We treat the whole person; meeting the patient's medical, emotional, spiritual and social needs to provide comfort, dignity and the best possible quality of life.
The palliative care team works closely with the
attending physician and nursing staff to provide expert pain and symptom
control, education, counseling, advocacy and coordination of services
for patients and families facing end-of-life challenges and decisions.
Elements of Palliative Care
Offered
at Holy Cross Hospital
Pain and Symptom Management
We believe that no one should be in unbearable pain. Our team will work
to assure that pain is treated effectively and compassionately, with both traditional
and complimentary pain management approaches.
Spiritual Care
Our pastoral care team member provides
spiritual support to our patients and/or family members while
they are coping with serious illness or end-of-life issues.
Our pastoral care professionals provide spiritual services,
which respect and honor the patient's cultural beliefs and
rituals.
Flexibility
We strive to work with the patient and family
in order to provide comfort, dignity and the best possible quality of life.
Advance Care Planning
This plan enables the caregiver and patient to express, in advance,
preferences that include pain management, patient advocacy, beneficial vs. non-beneficial
treatments, ease and comfort, counseling and other quality-of-life issues.

a patient with a serious chronic illness or with an end-stage, terminal diagnosis.
