Emergency Services

At Holy Cross, we are committed to employing only the safest, quickest, most advanced life support techniques, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. As a teaching institution, Holy Cross Hospital has around-the-clock access to a wide variety of medical specialists available to assist with most emergency situations. Emergency services nurses, technicians, and physicians are specially trained to respond to the unique challenges of emergency health care.

The Holy Cross Emergency Department offers a number of patient-focused innovations, including:

Express Care. Our innovative Express Care service, a unit dedicated to the treatment of minor care patients, which enables us to treat patients with minor injuries faster and more efficiently, decreasing patient wait time significantly.

Express Care General Information
Open 7 days a week, 12 noon to 12 midnight
Hours: 12:00 pm - 12:00 am

Bedside Registration. A new expanded triage area has significantly reduced wait time for patients. Thanks to new mobile bedside registration computers, patients need not wait to register before being assessed by a clinician.

Pediatric Treatment Room. The new pediatric treatment room, staffed by physicians board certified in pediatric emergency medicine and a certified pediatric nurse practioner, is fully equipped and customized for pediatric care.

Patient Advocates. The position of patient advocate has been created to provide comfort, caring, and communication for patients and their families in the ER. A significant role of the patient advocate is to aid with physical comfort: offering a warm blanket to a patient, bringing coffee to a family member, bringing a chair to the bedside, or offering a box lunch to a hungry patient.

Another equally important role is to offer "reassuring" comfort: holding the hand of an anxious patient who is alone, offering a hug to a frightened new mother with a sick newborn, or sharing stories with an elderly patient waiting for test results. Patient advocates also provide an additional layer of communication between patients, families, and staff-helping with the vital task of keeping patients informed about their care.
