Private Maternity Suites

After the birth of your baby in a private labor, delivery and recovery room (LDR), you and your baby will be taken to one of our Maternity Suites to recover in a quiet and comfortable setting.

Private Suites
Holy Cross Hospital offers 68 private postpartum maternity suites – more than any other area hospital. Each spacious suite offers comfortable furniture, muted colors and subdued lighting, as well as a private bathroom, cable television and a telephone.

Care for You and Your Baby
A registered nurse will care for you and your baby while you are in our maternity suite. Additionally, certified nursing assistants will be available. They will teach you about your after-delivery care, as well as breastfeeding, bottle-feeding and basic infant care and safety.

We encourage mothers to keep their babies with them in their rooms. “Rooming-in” with your baby provides a great opportunity to get to know your newborn.

To ensure you and your baby’s wellness, both your obstetrician and your baby’s pediatrician will see you and your baby before you are discharged. We are proud to collaborate with Children’s National Medical Center to conduct hearing screenings on all newborns prior to discharge.

Newborn Channel
The Newborn Channel, a closed-circuit television network available in each room, offers informative programs on breastfeeding, infant care and other subjects for new mothers and caregivers.

Room Service
Holy Cross Hospital’s “At Your Request” room service allows new mothers to order meals from an extensive menu. You can browse through a restaurant-style menu and call to place your order anytime between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Kosher and vegetarian options are available. You also may order food for visitors for a fee.

Discharge at 11 a.m.
On the morning of your discharge, your obstetrician will see you and your baby’s pediatrician will see your baby. Your physicians will write discharge orders for you and your baby and your nurse will coordinate your discharge. It is helpful for you and your baby to be settled at home as early as possible on the day of your discharge. We ask that you make arrangements to depart the hospital by 11 a.m.

Safety and Security
The safety and security of your baby is of the utmost importance. Holy Cross Hospital uses a state-of-the-art infant security system. You will receive information about the system when you are admitted to the hospital.
