Joint Center
Physical Medicine
Physical rehabilitation
plays a significant role in the success of your joint replacement.
Our experienced physical and occupational therapists will create
an individualized treatment plan to best meet your needs before,
during and after your stay.
Pre Operative
Assessment and Treatment
Our therapists are available to assess your
current level of function, develop a pre-operative exercise program
and teach you strategies to prepare for your upcoming procedure.
Upon obtaining a prescription from your physician, please call 301.754.7340 to schedule an appointment.
Expectations for Inpatient Therapy
During
your hospital stay, you will receive physical therapy twice a day
and occupational therapy once a day. Your therapists will work with
you to improve your mobility (i.e., walking, getting out of bed,
going up/down stairs) and ability to perform your activities of daily
living (i.e.’ bathing, dressing, toileting). You may
receive therapy in your room or in our orthopedic gym and sessions
may be one on one or in small groups. We encourage you to:
- Have your coach attend your therapy sessions with you.
- Wear comfortable clothes such as elastic waist shorts, t-shirts
and shoes with good support and nonslip (rubber) soles.
- Ask for pain medication approximately 30 minutes before attending
therapy.
Outpatient Therapy
Our outpatient physical and occupational therapy departments, located
on the ground floor of the hospital, are prepared to work with you
as you continue your post-surgery rehabilitation. Upon obtaining
a prescription from your physician, please call 301.754.7340 to schedule
an appointment.
