Home Care/Hospice
Bereavement Center
The Holy Cross Hospital Bereavement Center is dedicated to supporting
individuals who have experienced the recent death of a loved one. Weekly
group meetings are designed to meet the needs of the newly bereaved.
Specialized groups are provided for those who have suffered the loss
of a spouse, parent, child, sibling, or close friend.
These groups take place in suburban Maryland and are open to the Greater
Washington Metropolitan community. Anyone who has sustained a recent
loss and is seeking support as they grieve is welcome to attend.
Why join a bereavement group?
Some people are able to cope with the grief
of a significant loss with the help and support of family and friends,
others may gain comfort from their faith community. Many people benefit
from additional supports, such as the groups provided by Holy Cross Hospital
Bereavement Center. For a list of support group meetings, click

When is the right time to join a group?
Every person grieves differently.
There is no right or wrong time to join a support group, however, many
of our participants join our groups sometime during the first year after
a loss. Anyone wishing to work on loss and grief issues is welcome, even
if their loss is more distant in time.

Loss is a part of life,
and grief is a part of loss.
Grief is a normal response to loss.
Group support can help lessen the pain.
It can guide individuals through
the grieving process in a healthy
and supportive way.
Grief is painful at every stage in life.
No one needs to face it alone.
