Cancer Institute
The Holy Cross Hospital Cancer Institute cares
for more than 1,300 cancer inpatients annually, more than any other
hospital in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties. By combining
state-of-the-art treatment with our mission to care for the whole
person, we provide exceptional care and compassionate support for
patients with cancer and their families.
Our institute’s comprehensive services include inpatient and
outpatient diagnostic and treatment services. Holy Cross Hospital is
one of only six hospitals in Maryland to be accredited by the American
College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer as a Teaching Hospital
Cancer Program. Patients receive academic-level care in a community
setting through the hospital’s participation in prevention, early
detection and treatment clinical trials sponsored by various government
agencies, universities and foundations.
We offer specialized expertise in women’s
cancers and prostate cancer. Specialists at the hospital care for
more gynecologic oncology inpatients than any other hospital in Maryland
or the District of Columbia. Holy Cross Hospital also has cared for
thousands of men with prostate cancer, helping to pioneer radioactive
seed implantation in the region.
Holy Cross Hospital’s Oncology Unit offers
private rooms for most people who need inpatient cancer care, and
the hospital operates its own home care and hospice program. A supportive
team of nurse navigators, social workers, palliative and pastoral
care providers, pet and art therapists, nutritionists, cancer registrars
and others promote healing and enhance comfort for patients and families.
