Although breast cancer remains the most common form of cancer affecting women, each year more than 80,000 women will be told they have cancer of the female reproductive system such as cervical, uterine, and ovarian cancer. The Holy Cross Women’s Cancer Center specializes in treating cancers that are unique to a woman, including breast cancer and advanced cancers of the reproductive system. As with all cancers, the key to successful treatment begins with early detection.
The Holy Cross Women’s Cancer Center is a regional leader in performing advanced laparoscopic procedures to treat cancer. Our physicians are board-certified in gynecologic oncology, a highly advanced specialty in which physicians are trained to search the abdominal and pelvic areas for malignancies and to remove them. The expertise of the surgeon performing the surgery is important, for the prognosis for survival from ovarian and other reproductive cancers is directly related to the success of surgical intervention to remove the cancer. And clinical outcomes have shown to be better for patients who receive care from a gynecologic oncologist.
