Healing the Body, Mind and Spirit
Holy
Cross Hospital initiated or expanded several efforts this year designed
to help patients address pain, illness, or depression, and otherwise
improve comfort.
Our artist-in-residence program in partnership with Smith Farm Center for the Healing Arts provides access to specially trained artists for both inpatients and outpatients and their families. On a daily basis the artists awaken healing resources through the mediums of music, storytelling, creative writing, movement, and other activities. Smith Farm Center also offers a range of healing retreats, creativity workshops, and nutrition programs that support adults living with serious illness and their caregivers. Friendly, four-legged ambassadors from the new pet therapy program visit patients, visitors, and staff at least once a week. And most recently, local stained-glass artist, Micki Fuller, began making butterfly ornaments to give hope to breast cancer patients and raise money for the hospital’s Cancer Institute, all in memory of her daughter, Karen, who died from the disease several years ago.
