Minimally Invasive Surgery Options
Our bariatric surgeons specialize in minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery, which means they make only very small incisions and use specialized instruments to perform surgery. Many patients qualify for this type of minimally invasive weight-loss surgery. This approach results in less pain, a shorter recovery and fewer complications for our patients than traditional surgery with larger incisions.
Our bariatric surgeons perform the following weight-loss surgeries:
- Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery makes the stomach smaller and allows food to bypass part of the small intestine.
- Laparoscopic adjustable gastric band surgery involves implanting an adjustable gastric band that reduces stomach capacity without stapling the stomach or changing normal digestion.
Body Contouring
Weight-loss
surgery patients may quickly lose a large amount of weight after
surgery. For about half of the patients, the rapid weight loss
results in excess abdominal skin. These patients may be candidates
for body contouring plastic surgery to remove the extra skin.
