Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

If your baby should require neonatal care, we're ready. Holy Cross Hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) cares for more newborns with complex medical issues than any other hospital in Maryland. Our 46-bed level IIIB NICU features state-of-the-art technology to care for babies who are born early or have medical complications that require constant observation or care.

Our highly specialized team works collaboratively to provide comprehensive infant care. Our team includes neonatologists (physicians who specialize in newborn care), neonatal nurse practitioners, registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists, social workers, case managers, lactation consultants and other specialists. Our team communicates with you and your pediatrician to coordinate care and to make sure your baby has everything he or she needs to thrive.

Because there is no substitute for a parent's loving touch, we encourage parents to visit their babies in the NICU frequently and participate in their care. We support and encourage breastfeeding and can help you begin. To ease the transition home, we offer a discharge class, CPR training and a support group.
