What is a hospitalist?
Hospitalists are hospital-based doctors specially trained in the care of hospitalized patients. The Internal Medicine hospitalists at Holy Cross Hospital have special interests in geriatrics, acute care, pulmonary medicine, cardiology, or other diseases.
Where is the hospitalist's office located?
The hospitalist's office is located right here at Holy Cross Hospital.
How will the hospitalist know my medical history?
The hospitalist will speak with your primary care physician to learn about your current health condition, medical history and preferences.
What if I need to speak with the hospitalist in the middle of the night?
Hospitalists are on call 24-hours a day at Holy Cross Hospital.
What happens when I'm discharged from the hospital?
The hospitalist will prescribe any medications you need to take when you leave the hospital and will send your primary care physician a summary of your hospital records and medications. After discharge, you will be under the care of your primary care physician.
What if I don't have a primary care physician?
If you do not have a primary care physician, you may be admitted to our hospitalist service. One of our attending physicians will be responsible for your care. Upon discharge from the hospital, we will refer you to a primary care physician in the community for follow-up care.
