Bringing Private Rooms to All Patients
Holy Cross Hospital, one of the largest hospitals in Maryland, is expanding to continue to meet the health care needs of the community. By enlarging and modernizing the facility, Holy Cross Hospital will be able to continue to provide high-quality health care to the growing population in the region. A new seven-story, 234,000-square-foot patient care building with 150 private rooms is being constructed on the south side of the hospital. The additional space will ensure that patients throughout the hospital have private rooms. The benefits of private rooms include reduced risk of infections; privacy for confidential conversations; privacy for the comfort of patients and their family members; and privacy for rest and recuperation, which has been shown to shorten hospital stays. The new patient care building opens in the fall of 2015.
In addition to the new patient care building and the move to all private rooms, additional renovations are taking place, too:
Surgical Services Modernization and Expansion
The surgical services area of the hospital is being renovated for greater efficiency and comfort for both physicians and patients. Patients and their families will benefit from additional space both before and after surgery.
The hospital expansion will promote environmental sustainability through the installation of an up-to-date energy system. On the ground floor, a new central utility plant is being constructed with greatly enhanced energy efficiency and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver designation.
The hospital recently added 300 parking spaces to the existing parking garage to increase convenience for patients and employees.
