Holy Cross Hospital's Historic Expansion

Holy Cross Hospital's South Building opened on November 1, 2015 on the newly named Kevin J. Sexton Campus of Holy Cross Health. The new seven-story, 232,000 square-foot South Building represents the hospital’s largest expansion in more than 50 years, adding 232,000 square feet and bringing the latest technology, privacy and comfort to all patients.

Key Features of the South Building:

  • a seven-story, state-of-the-art South Building that houses 150 private patient rooms

  • includes the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), the Acute Care/Intermediate Care Unit (IMC), the Acute Care/Cardiac Unit, and medical-surgical units

  • a designated space for seniors in the renovated surgery department

  • an all new central utility plant that provides efficient heating, cooling and emergency power

  • "green" design that has met the standards for LEED Gold certification

With the opening of the new South Building, Holy Cross Hospital joins Holy Cross Germantown Hospital as the only area hospitals to offer private rooms to all patients.

Additional Innovations

The modernized space is also helping the hospital strengthen its pioneering senior care. A designated space for older adults has been included in the renovated surgery department.

The environmentally friendly addition houses an all new central utility plant to provide efficient heating, cooling and emergency power for the whole hospital. The "green" design meets all the latest standards for sustainability and is Leadership in Energy and Environmental (LEED) Gold certified.

An additional 42,000 square feet of the existing facility's critical care and surgery areas were also expanded and renovated, and parking at the hospital has been increased by 300 spaces for the convenience of patients, visitors, physicians and employees.
