Foundation Board of Trustees: Call for Candidates

Holy Cross Hospital Foundation seeks individuals with diverse talents to join its board of trustees. The foundation will draw its pool of candidates from the greater Washington, D.C., metropolitan region.
 
Holy Cross Hospital
Holy Cross Hospital was founded in 1963 by the Sisters of the Holy Cross. It is located on the Capital Beltway in Silver Spring, Md, and regularly ranks as the second-largest hospital based on patient volume in the state of Maryland. Holy Cross Hospital is a non-profit teaching hospital that offers a full range of inpatient and outpatient care, with specialized expertise in Ob/Gyn, Cancer, Neurology, Spine and Joint, and Emergency Care – including the nation’s first dedicated Senior’s Emergency Center. The hospital operates two community-based primary care health centers for uninsured adults, and will open a third in 2011. The hospital operates the county’s largest obstetrics clinic for uninsured women on-site, which is the only gynecological care resource in Montgomery County for these women.
 
Holy Cross Hospital Foundation
The Holy Cross Hospital Foundation was founded in 2006 to support the philanthropic goals of Holy Cross Hospital. A 25-member board of Trustees raises funds supported by the Foundation staff, which raises funds through direct mail appeals, special events, planned giving initiatives, and major donor and capital campaign initiatives. Trustees provide leadership, engagement and introductions for major gift fund raising ($5,000+) from individuals, families, regional, national, and multinational corporations, and grant-making foundations. Trustees are expected to make a significant financial contribution (appropriate to their means) annually, and to solicit major gifts.  

The Diversity & Nominating Committee is emphasizing the following criteria:

  • Diversity of Trustees with connections to individuals and families of wealth, philanthropic foundations and corporate grant makers
  • Experience/affiliations that would enhance the board’s ability to reach target populations including: Businesses owners, Corporate senior management with Fortune 100 companies, Foundation leaders
  • Latina/o and Hispanic, African American, Asian and other ethnic and cultural groups
  • Celebrities, on-air personalities, and other high-profile individuals seen in the press and media
  • Experience/affiliations that would enhance the board’s ability to reach target industry sectors, including: Pharmaceuticals, bio-technology, information technology, and other tech areas
  • Military, aerospace, government and fortune 100 business contractors
  • Service sector, PR, food/beverage, restaurant, hotels/resorts, travel, and other
  • Wholesale, retail, and durable goods companies
