Medical Library
The Medical Library at Holy Cross Hospital offers
information resources to facilitate educational and patient care needs.
Members of the hospital’s
medical and dental staff as well as participants in affiliated education
programs are welcome to access the library’s collection of more
than 600 textbooks in medicine, nursing and clinical sciences. The library’s
collection also includes a wide variety of print and online medical
journal subscriptions.
In addition, CME videotapes of weekly Grand Rounds may be checked
out for individual viewing from the CME coordinator who is located in
the Medical Affairs Office.
The Medical Library at Holy Cross Hospital offers access to these resources:
- Journals are shelved alphabetically by titles and are arranged chronologically
by volume and date. A journal catalog lists titles owned in print and
online, with years owned.
- Over 700 online journals and electronic books may be accessed from
an A to Z icon located on the library’s website on HCnet.
- Textbooks are shelved by subject in National Library of Medicine call
number order.
Hours of Operation
The Medical Library is open on weekdays from 8 a.m.
to 4 p.m.
Reference/Information Services
Reference service is provided by a librarian
on weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Photocopy Facility
A photocopier is maintained for self-service copying. Photocopying
of library-related materials may be made at no charge. Copyright restrictions
apply to all materials.
Computer Services
Computer reference stations are located in the reference
area. The library:
- Provides direct online access via the Internet to selected sites
that include MEDLINE, CINAHL, Up-To-Date, MD CONSULT, and Evidence-Based
Medicine databases. Literature searching of databases can be performed
by the librarian or by the library patron at no cost to the library
patron. Scheduled end-user search training and support is offered
to library patrons.
- Participants in the George Washington University/Holy Cross Hospital
Medical Education Program, faculty and others in affiliated education
or training programs may access educational resources available through
their respective institutions through our computer workstations. Logins
and passwords may be needed to access these systems.
