The Holy Cross Hospital Cancer Institute cares for more than 1,300 cancer inpatients annually, more than any other hospital in Montgomery and Prince George's counties. Services include inpatient and outpatient diagnostic and treatment services, including advanced medical imaging, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgical intervention, clinical research, and a variety of education and support services.
The hospital offers an extensive range of cardiac care services designed to diagnose and treat patients with cardiac disease, including noninvasive diagnostic testing, inpatient care and monitoring in dedicated inpatient cardiac units, cardiac rhythm management, emergency angioplasty for heart attack, cardiac catheterization, interventional procedures, and heart failure management and education.
The Emergency Center is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and treats more than 70,000 patients each year. The center has three specialized emergency areas (acute care, express care and pediatric emergency) to enhance patient privacy and to focus care on each patient's specific medical needs.
Home Care and Hospice Agency
The Holy Cross Home Care and Hospice Agency has provided comprehensive, community-based home health services since 1967. The agency emphasizes the importance of patients and families remaining in their home environment during illness and recovery to maintain independence, dignity and function.
Medical Imaging Services
Holy Cross Hospital's medical imaging capabilities include computerized tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), MRI of the breast, ultrasound, angiography, nuclear medicine studies and mammography services. Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is offered through an imaging center located in the office building adjacent to the hospital. The hospital uses filmless computerized imaging for all patient scans except mammography, allowing physicians to view images throughout the hospital and in their offices or homes.
Holy Cross Hospital's neuroscience services focus on stroke response and management, epilepsy monitoring and treatment, and neurosurgery. Holy Cross Hospital has been designated a primary stroke center by the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS) and cares for more stroke patients than any other hospital in Montgomery or Prince George's counties.
Pain Management Center
The Holy Cross Hospital Pain Management Center's board-certified pain management specialists provide individualized evaluation, education and treatment to patients who suffer from all types of acute and chronic pain.
Palliative Care Consultation Service
Palliative care provides total active care for people with advanced medical illness, especially those with chronic and progressive life-limiting conditions. The hospital's specialized team helps patients and their families consider all available options and cope with difficult decisions, including treatment and end-of-life issues.
Holy Cross Hospital cares for 20,000 children each year. The Emergency Center includes a dedicated area for children, and the Pediatric Center cares for inpatients, ambulatory surgical patients and short-stay patients with a wide range of medical conditions.
