As part of the Holy Cross Hospital mission, we provide a wide range of education and wellness programs for seniors, including physician-led lectures, health screenings, and fitness classes. These programs are designed to keep you in good health, both physically and mentally, as you age.
Fitness and movement classes, health and wellness education, medical screenings, special events and support groups are offered at Holy Cross Hospital and more than thirty community-based centers throughout the area. Fitness Classes
Better Balance (55+) Designed for seniors 55 and older, this free class incorporates strength and resistance training and balance-specific exercises that target the three sensory systems - visual, muscular and neurologic - involved in balance control. The goal of this class is to improve balance through increased strength and body awareness in challenging situations. View schedule and registration information.
Better Bones (55+) This free program is designed for seniors 55 and older. It focuses on reducing the rate of bone loss, improving balance and flexibility, and enhancing energy and well-being. View schedule and registration information.

Karl's Fitness Camp for Adults (55+) A 45-minute challenging, no-frills fitness regimen gets seniors 55+ into shape...fast! View schedule and registration information.
Laughter Aerobics Laughter aerobics combines laughing exercises, fun and stress release activities while incorporating deep breathing methods to bring joy and a sense of well-being. View schedule and registration information.
Line Dancing (55+) This line dance class, created for seniors 55 and older, will teach line dance routines with low and high energy steps. You'll get a great workout while learning the latest line dancing techniques. View schedule and registration information.
Mat Pilates (55+) This exercise class, designed for seniors 55 and older, will strengthen, tone, and lengthen core muscles, while improving posture and flexibility. View schedule and registration information.
Matter of Balance Have you fallen? Are you concerned about falls? During these eight 2-hour classes, you will set goals for increasing activity and learn how to: View falls as controllable; make changes to reduce falls risks at home; exercise to increase strength and balance. PACE: People with Arthritis Can Exercise (55+) (Spanish) This free, multi-week class of safe and simple exercises designed by the Arthritis Foundation will help to increase endurance, boost energy, and improve range of motion. View schedule and registration information.
Parkinson's Exercise Class This multi-week class, designed for seniors 55+ who have been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, will help maintain joint mobility, improve coordination and balance, increase muscle strength and flexibility, reduce stress and improve control over gross motor movements such as walking. Stay Active-MOVE (55+) (formerly PACE) Don't think people with arthritis should exercise? Think again! This multi-week class of safe and simple exercises designed for seniors 55+ will help you increase your level of endurance, boost your energy, and improve your range of motion. Summer Striders Beat the heat! This indoor walking program lets you get fit and stay cool during the summer months. Participants will receive a free pedometer and progress tracking. View schedule and registration information.
Tai Chi-Chih Tai Chi-Chih's gentle movements release stress by relaxing the body while refreshing the mind. The movements promote physical, mental, and emotional health. Water Workout - Senior Aerobics A 10-week water aerobic class for people with arthritis. Non-swimmers are welcome. View schedule and registration information.
Yoga (55+) Designed for seniors ages 55 and older, this class will teach Yoga postures, breathing exercises and meditation to stretch, tone, and strengthen muscles and joints. View schedule and registration information.
Zumba Gold Fitness (55+) This fitness dance class, designed for seniors ages 55 and older, is inspired by Latin dance and focuses on interval cardio training. View schedule and registration information.
Health and Wellness
AARP Driver Safety Class A classroom refresher course designed to sharpen driving skills and develop new defensive driving techniques for drivers age 50 and older. View schedule and registration information.
Blood Pressure Screening Free blood pressure screenings are offered on a walk-in basis at several community locations. View schedule and registration information.
Chronic Disease Self-Management Living Well Program This free six-week program teaches adults with chronic medical conditions how to manage their health in order to live longer and better lives. Anyone living with a long-term health condition, such as arthritis, diabetes, asthma or high blood pressure is welcome to attend. Family members, friends, and caregivers are also welcome. This program is made possible by funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 and with funds granted through the Maryland Department of Aging by the Federal Administration on Aging. Diabetes Education Class Diabetes self-management classes, taught by a registered nurse and dietitian, prepare the participant to self-manage their disease in partnership with their physician. The class includes four group sessions and one individual visit with a dietitian. View schedule and registration information.
Diabetes Prevention Program This free 12-week classroom program is designed to help individuals who have pre-diabetes to make lifestyle changes, such as weight loss and exercise, which can prevent or delay the onset of diabetes or cardiovascular disease. Manage Your Clutter, Manage Your Life This two-part series will help you manage the clutter in your life - thereby reducing your stress. Memory Academy (55+) This 5-week course was created by UCLA Center on Aging and provides memory improvement techniques designed to work for everyone. (This program is not intended for people with Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia). View schedule and registration information.
Nixing Nicotine This free six-week program is designed to help individuals stop smoking. The group is led by a certified tobacco treatment specialist, who provides a unique, supportive opportunity for each participant to learn to be, and stay, tobacco free with individual treatment plans.
