Holy Cross hospital offers more than 30 different types of fitness classes for adults of all ages. Below is an alphabetical listing of many of the classes available to the community. For more information and to register, please click here.

Community Health Fitness

Ballroom Swing - Basics and Beyond
Learn the social style of ballroom dancing in a friendly, fun and supportive atmosphere while enjoying a gentle and varied cardiovascular workout. No partner is required. View schedule and registration information.

Better Bones (55+)
This free program is designed for seniors 55 and older. It focuses on reducing the rate of bone loss, improving balance and flexibility, and enhancing energy and well-being. View schedule and registration information.

Chair Yoga
Chair yoga is done seated and standing using the chair to assist in improving balance, strength and flexibility. A great class for seniors and individuals with physical challenges. View schedule and registration information.

Falls Assessment
This assessment utilizes the state-of-the-art Biodex Balance System and gait and balance testing to determine your personal falls risk. Pre-registration is required. Space is limited. View schedule and registration information.

Family Friendly Karate
Learn karate techniques and improve your balance, strength and flexibility in this family friendly class. View schedule and registration information.

Gentle Yoga
This class combines gentle stretching, restorative postures, Yogic breathing and guided deep relaxation. Great for beginning students, seniors and those who have some mild physical challenges. View schedule and registration information.

Jazz Dance
This class is designed for seniors age 55 and up. Smooth jazz warm-ups and simple jazz dance steps and routines set to a variety of music and styles. The Difficulty Level Rating for this class is "Moderate". View schedule and registration information.

Line Dancing - Senior Source
This line dance class created for seniors 55+ will teach you line dance routines with low and high energy steps. You'll get a great workout while learning the latest line dancing techniques- come and get your groove on! Little or no dance experience is required. This class is rated at the "moderate" fitness level. View schedule and registration information.

Manage Your Fitness Online
Using a new Web-based fitness program, Interactive Health Partner, you can consult with health and fitness experts online, receive a custom exercise program, set and manage goals and track results. View schedule and registration information.

Mat Pilates
This exercise class is designed for seniors 55 and older to strengthen, tone and lengthen your core muscles to balance the strength of your abdominal and back muscles while improving posture and flexibility. View schedule and registration information.

Matter of Balance
During these eight 2-hour classes, you will set goals for increasing activity and learn how to: View falls as controllable; Make changes to reduce falls risks at home; Exercise to increase strength and balance. This is an excellent class to take PRIOR to taking the UpRight! Balance Training class. View schedule and registration information.

Parkinson's Exercise Class
This multi-week class, designed for seniors 55+ who have been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, will help maintain joint mobility, improve coordination and balance, increase muscle strength and flexibility, reduce stress and improve control over gross motor movements such as walking. (Requires Doctor's Consent Form annually). View schedule and registration information.

Pilates
A mat class designed to improve flexibility, core strength and posture. View schedule and registration information.

Postnatal Yoga/Pilates for Moms & Babies
A six-session course developed for mothers and babies (six weeks to nine months). Includes mother-baby postures and massage designed to strengthen, stretch, and tone both of you. View schedule and registration information.

Prenatal Exercise
This six-class session is designed for the expectant mother at any stage of pregnancy. Includes stretching, muscle toning, and strength training, while incorporating cardiovascular work throughout.  View schedule and registration information 

Prenatal Yoga
In this six-session course, learn breathing and relaxation techniques, postures for stretching and toning, and ways to strengthen the muscles used during labor and delivery. Talk time is included in each class. View schedule and registration information.

Senior FIT (55+)

Six Weeks to a Happier Healthier You!

Learn the basics on how to lead a healthier, happier life from a certified health coach and yoga therapist. Topics include: lifestyle changes to improve blood pressure, blood sugar and arthritis symptoms and how to enhance your immune system. Here's your chance to make a plan for a new you in 2014! Stay Active - MOVE (55+)  
Safe and simple exercises designed for seniors 55 and older by the Arthritis Foundation that will help you increase your level of endurance, boost your energy, and improve your range of motion. This class is offered in English and Spanish.

Tai Chi
In this class, designed for seniors 55+, you will learn basic postures, principles, health benefits and methods of meditation. Tai Chi is an integrated system of health, self-defense and meditation. UpRight Balance Training
This program uses sensory training and balace-specific exercises that increase awareness skills needed for balance maintenance. In order to be eligible for this program, you MUST have had a FALLS ASSESSMENT WITHIN THE THREE MONTHS PRIOR TO THE CLASS and you must fall into the low to moderate falls risk range. Water Workout - Senior Aerobics
A 10-week water aerobic class for people with arthritis. Non-swimmers are welcome. View schedule and registration information.

 

Yoga - Senior Source
This yoga class, designed for seniors age 55+; includes postures, breathing exercises and meditation to stretch, tone and strengthen muscles and joints. Boomers and beyond - if you want to maintain your flexibility and muscle tone, this is the class for you! View schedule and registration information.

Yoga for Women
This class is for Women 30 and older. Tap into that power, balance hormones, soothe anxiety, and feed your spirit with Yoga. View schedule and registration information.

Yoga I
Develop flexibility, balance and strengthen the body while cultivating a sense of inner peace. An active yet meditative experience that includes yoga postures, breathing, and deep relaxation. View schedule and registration information.

Yoga II
Designed for continuing yoga students who have taken Yoga I for at least six months. This class focuses on refining postures and moving into more advanced versions of the poses. View schedule and registration information.

Yoga Nidra
Join us for iRest® Yoga Nidra, a guided meditation practice that promotes healing on all levels while restoring your deepest sense of well-being. “Pain is inevitable; suffering is optional.” Learn the ancient yoga process of how to let go of the resistance that causes suffering. Zumba

Join professional dancer and choreographer Meryl Shapiro for a low-impact dance based aerobics class. View schedule and registration information.
 

Zumba Gold Fitness
This dance class, designed for seniors age 55+, focuses on interval cardio training in the guise of Latin style beats and dance moves. The exercises promote fat burning, calorie burning, and muscle toning. Shed pounds while having fun doing these easy-to-follow aerobic exercises to some really fun music.
