| The community art exhibition space at Holy Cross Hospital is located in the busy concourse of the Professional and Community Education Center on the lobby level. The exhibit area is reserved for the juried works of individual artists or groups who live and/or work in Montgomery or Prince George's counties (Maryland), or whose works have strong ties to the surrounding community and/or the mission of Holy Cross Hospital and Trinity Health. Types of mediums accepted for display include two-dimensional framed or mounted paintings, sketches, textiles and photos. No large commercial prints will be accepted. All works will be displayed using the wall mounted Walker Display system. Depending on size, the maximum number of works permitted to be exhibited at one time by a single artist is 15 individual pieces. Groups or organizations may display up to 30 individual pieces.
Community Art Exhibition Gallery Guidelines:
Eligibility Open to all local artists, groups or organizations who live and/or are located in the aforementioned areas or whose works are of a local interest, or those that pertain to a special theme designated by the hospital. The maximum weight of works shall be no more than 45 pounds. Only original work completed by the artist within the past five years will be accepted. Holy Cross Hospital reserves the right not to accept works that are deemed inappropriate.
What to Submit Upon call for entries, each artist may submit an application, photographs or digital photo files of the works to be considered. A legible identification label including, name, address, telephone number and the title of the medium must accompany any photograph or slide.
Upon receipt of the application and sample works, a confirmation letter will be sent to each artist informing them of receipt of their application/works and the jury timetable. Once the committee has reached a decision, all artists will receive a letter notifying them of acceptance or denial. If approved, each artist will receive information specifying the dates of the exhibit of his or her works and appropriate details.
Delivery and Installation The artist will be responsible for delivering their works to the hospital and assisting in the installation, as needed. Each artist will provide a list of the works on exhibit. A brief biography of the artist(s) and a description of the exhibit will be required two weeks prior to the opening of the exhibit. In addition, each work should have a title and a one-sentence description of the medium and/or process. Optional: If available for sale, the amount in exact dollars and cents (i.e., $125.00) should also be given.
Sale of Art The purchase of art is permitted upon completion of the exhibit. All transactions will be handled solely between the artist and the buyer. If made available for sale, the artist is encouraged-but not required-to donate 10 percent of the retail price of the sale to the Holy Cross Hospital Foundation, 11801 Tech Road, Silver Spring, Maryland 20904.
Return of Work All works must be removed from the Holy Cross Hospital by 10 p.m. on the last day of the exhibit. Artists should bring their own wrapping materials.
