practice. The program recognizes and provides opportunities for professional
growth, emphasizes teamwork, supports the utilization of evidence-based
practice and enhances patient care.
Nurses are eligible for advancement
if they work a minimum of 1040 hours annually, have satisfactorily
completed a probationary period, receive a satisfactory rating on
the last performance evaluation and receive manager endorsement.
New graduates who are Registered Nurses are eligible for promotion
after one year to a Registered Nurse I. All RNs with experience start
as a Registered Nurse I. The sequential clinical ladder levels are:
- Registered Nurse I: All RNs with at least one year of
experience.
- Registered Nurse II: 30 hours with a maximum of six contact
hours. Requires an application process for promotion to a Registered
Nurse II.
- Registered Nurse III: 50 hours with a maximum of 12 contact
hours. Requires an application process for promotion to a Registered
Nurse III.
- Registered Nurse IV: 70 hours with a maximum of 18 contact
hours. Requires an application process for promotion to a Registered
Nurse IV.
Self-development hours can be achieved through various activities.
Each hour translates to one hour of self-development activity and
each formal contact hour equals one hour. The applicant must describe
in the professional portfolio the connection of self-development
activities to clinical practice and how it influences patient outcomes.
The applicant must reflect the principles of the Quality-Caring Model
in her or his professional portfolio. A few examples of accepted
professional activities include hospital committee participation,
quality improvement initiatives, patient/family education development,
clinical research or professional membership.
