Clinical Units
Ambulatory Care Center (ACC)
The Ambulatory Care Center provides outpatient services including Acupuncture, Wound Center, Laser Eye Service, Manometry, and those involving our Incontinence Clinic.

Ambulatory Surgery Department (ASD)
The ASD is a 29-bed outpatient unit within Surgical Services, which provides pre- and post-procedure care for adult and geriatric patients undergoing surgical, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

Cancer Research Program
Work with individuals who are at risk for cancer or diagnosed with cancer, and who are participating in research studies that involve early detection, diagnosis, treatment of cancer, symptom management and/or quality of life.

Case Management (CM)
Embrace responsibilities that advance the effectiveness and impact of utilization review, case coordination, concurrent documentation improvement and discharge planning.

Coronary Care Unit (CCU)
The CCU Unit is a 12-bed critical care unit caring for patients presenting with potentially life-threatening cardiac events.

Coronary Intermediate Care Unit (CIC)
The CIC is a 29-bed primarily medical post-cardiac care (“telemetry”) unit providing intensive nursing and medical care for patients who exceed the expertise and/or reasonable allowance of a general medical/surgical patient care unit and do not meet admission criteria to the ICU, CCU or IMC.

Dialysis
The Dialysis Unit includes chronic outpatient hemodialysis, acute hemodialysis, and peritoneal dialysis for those patients with end stage renal disease.

Endoscopy
The Endoscopy Unit is a three-suite unit responsible for procedures such as colonoscopies, ERCPs, bronchoscopies and much more.

Emergency Center
Ours is designated as a Level II Emergency Center (EC) with an annual patient volume of approximately 73,000 visits. Caregivers provide immediate treatment and stabilization of any patient who presents for care.

General Medicine – 5
General Medicine – 5 is a 30-bed unit that provides continuous care with primary focus on patients with a medical diagnosis.

General Medicine – 6
General Medicine - 6 is a 28-bed unit that provides continuous care with primary focus on patients with a medical diagnosis.

General Surgical Unit
The General Surgical Unit is a 31-bed unit serving patients (age 18 and over) with general surgical procedures.

High Risk Perinatal Center (HRPC)
The HRPC is a 20-bed unit that provides full spectrum, high-quality obstetrical care for women with low and high-risk pregnancies requiring inpatient hospital care related to an obstetrical complication.

Holy Cross Hospital Health Center
The Holy Cross Hospital Health Center is a primary care medical center providing affordably priced health care services to uninsured adults at least 18 years of age in Silver Spring and the surrounding areas. This state-of-the-art center is a collaborative effort between Holy Cross Hospital and Montgomery College and is located in downtown Silver Spring at 7987 Georgia Avenue.

Home Care and Hospice
The Holy Cross Hospital Home Care and Hospital Agency provides skilled nursing and physical, occupational and speech therapy. Medical social work and home health aide services also are available for patients who need follow-up care after a hospitalization or for patients who can be treated at home in lieu of hospitalization. In-home hospice care offers end-of-life care for patients with a life expectancy of less than six months.

Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
The ICU is a 14-bed mixed medical/surgical unit caring for patients who present with potentially life-threatening medical conditions.

Intermediate Care Unit (IMC)
The IMC Unit is a 27-bed mixed medical/surgical unit care for patients presenting with potentially non life-threatening medical conditions.

Joint Center and Spine Center—Opening October 2007
A new specialty unit designed for spine and total joint replacement patients featuring:

  • 14 private rooms
  • Patient education room
  • Physical therapy activity room
  • Multidisciplinary environment
  • Internship Program - Specialty training in joint and spine nursing including pre-operative preparation
  • Surgical process, pre-operative management and discharge program
  • Continuing education and training programs

Labor and Delivery (L&D)
The Labor and Delivery Unit includes 24-LDRs, an eight-bed triage and six-bay post procedure recovery area as well as three obstetrical ORs. It provides care to the laboring patient, from the initial triage and/or admission phase through labor, delivery and the immediate post partum period.

Maternity Suites
The Maternity Suites Unit is a 68-bed nursing unit providing care for postpartum mothers and well newborns.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
The NICU is a 46-bed Level IIIB nursing unit that provides care to neonates with special medical needs.

OB/GYN Clinic
An outpatient clinic that provides prenatal, obstetric and gynecologic services to uninsured women.

Oncology
The Oncology Unit is a 17-bed inpatient unit that provides care for patients admitted with a medical or surgical oncology diagnosis.

Operating Room (OR)
A 16-room operating suite providing multi-specialty procedures for patients ranging from pediatric to older adult.

Ortho-Neuro Surgical Unit
The Ortho-Neuro Surgical Unit is a 30-bed unit that serves a variety of adult and geriatric patients, with an emphasis on total joint replacement.

Outpatient Infusion Center
An outpatient unit that provides care for patients requiring infusion services such as blood products, chemotherapy, biotherapies, immunotherapies, as well as antibiotic therapy.

Pain Management
The Pain Management Center is a professional medical practice unit dedicated to the effective treatment and management of pain.

Pediatrics
The Pediatric Center is a nursing unit serving inpatient and outpatient medical and surgical pediatric patients.

Perinatal Diagnostic Center (PDC)
The Perinatal Diagnostic Center provides medical imaging and perinatal consultative services to inpatient and outpatient high-risk obstetrical patients.

Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
The PACU provides observation and intervention for inpatients and outpatients during post anesthesia Phase I. The primary purpose of this critical care unit is to ensure that patients are safely reacted from the anesthetic agents received during surgery/procedures. PACU staff provides transitional care until patients are ready to be transferred to other care units.

Post Procedure Recovery (PPR)
The PPR Unit provides pre and post procedure care for cardiac catheterization and intervention radiology patients, as well as post procedure care for inpatients undergoing endoscopy and radiology procedures.

Pre-Admission Testing (PAT)
Our Pre-Admission Testing area prepares patients who are scheduled for procedures/surgery (both same-day surgery patients as well as those to be admitted as inpatients).

Private Home Services (PHS)
Private Home Services provides personal care and sitter/companion services to patients in the comfort of their homes or facilities as their temporary or permanent place of residence.

Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU)
A 16-bed intensive care unit providing care of patients with potentially life-threatening surgical conditions.

Women’s Surgical Unit
A nursing unit serving inpatient and outpatient female surgical patients.
