(Silver Spring, Maryland) - On January 10, 1963 Holy Cross Hospital opened its doors and began providing quality patient care to the residents of Silver Spring, Maryland. What initially started as a partnership between the Sisters of the Holy Cross, local physicians and the community's Silver Spring Hospital Association, has now, 50 years later, grown to become an award-winning staple of Montgomery County and a symbol for quality health care nationwide.
In recognition of the importance of this milestone, Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett issued a Proclamation declaring today, January 10, 2013, Holy Cross Hospital Dayin Montgomery County, and Congressman Chris Van Hollen presented a Citation to Holy Cross Hospital "with gratitude for five decades of providing exceptional and compassionate care to our community and in appreciation of our tradition of service, particularly to the poor and vulnerable," which they presented to Holy Cross Hospital last evening. The hospital also received a Resolution from the State of Maryland and Citations from the U.S. Senate and Maryland General Assembly.
As part of the celebration, the hospital presented a video and unveiled new artwork specifically commissioned to commemorate the 50th anniversary.
With the creation of Holy Cross Health, the construction of Holy Cross Germantown Hospital, three community health centers, the first Seniors Emergency Center in the nation, two obstetrics/gynecology clinics, multiple community health and faith community nursing sites throughout the region, and electronically linked health records, Holy Cross Health is well positioned to continue its legacy and its mission to provide quality health care with a special commitment to vulnerable and underserved residents.
