(SILVER SPRING, MD) Holy Cross Hospital of Silver Spring, Maryland, has announced an organizational alignment to support its growth as a health care delivery organization that operates two hospitals and a network of three health centers and other entities and maintains a range of relationships with many affiliated physicians.
Kevin J. Sexton, president and CEO of Holy Cross Health, said, “It is a fitting tribute to the Sisters of the Holy Cross who founded the hospital 50 years ago that we are at this moment in our history positioning Holy Cross to respond to the needs of our time today. We are positioning for a successful and different future in terms of how we coordinate and deliver care both inside and outside the two hospitals and how we get paid for providing that care in partnership with our physicians.”
Holy Cross announced the creation of Holy Cross Health and three operating divisions, which will be led by presidents:
Holy Cross Hospital
Holy Cross Germantown Hospital
Holy Cross Health Network
The hospital presidents will focus on ensuring high quality patient care experiences, outstanding clinical outcomes and efficient operations. The president of the health network will focus on the operations of the health centers and primary care practice, the development of the physician network and insurance relations.
Edward Bersoff, Ph.D., Chair of the Board of Trustees of Holy Cross Hospital, said, “Kevin Sexton will retain overall leadership of the consolidated organization as the President and CEO of Holy Cross Health and the President and CEO of the Maryland Region of Trinity Health, the parent organization of Holy Cross.” Sexton’s office will remain at Holy Cross Hospital and the operating division presidents will report to him.
Judith Rogers, R.N., Ph.D., was named President, Holy Cross Hospital. Rogers joined Holy Cross Hospital in 2003 and previously served as Vice President Women and Children’s Services, Chief Nursing Officer, Vice President Patient Care Services, and most recently, Senior Vice President Operations. Sexton said “Judith has provided exceptional leadership to the operating division of the hospital and has been responsible for the success of several key strategic initiatives. Her tenure at Holy Cross Hospital is marked by a series of promotions over the years that reflect her progressively greater contributions.”
Sexton said that recruitment will begin for the first President of Holy Cross Germantown Hospital, which will open in 2014.
Gary Vogan was named President of Holy Cross Health Network, which will serve as the locus for non-hospital care delivery and manage the new relationships with payers and physicians the organization expects to see in the future. Vogan served as Chief Financial Officer from 1999-2011 and currently focuses on reimbursement reform and physician and insurance linkages. Sexton said, “Gary has vast experience and will be extraordinarily helpful as we develop a formal structure for this new division.”
The new organizational structure will be effective November 1, 2012.
