Holy Cross Health has provided prenatal, obstetric and gynecologic care to women regardless of their ability to pay for those services since 1963. More babies are born at Holy Cross Hospital than any other hospital in Maryland or the District of Columbia. Holy Cross Germantown Hospital, the first-ever maternity hospital in Germantown, Md., is staffed by a team of maternal and infant health experts with the same outstanding level of commitment, skill and expertise for which Holy Cross Hospital is known.
Today Holy Cross Health remains a leading provider of prenatal, obstetric and gynecologic services for uninsured women in Montgomery County.
In 1999, Holy Cross Health's commitment to obstetric and gynecologic care grew dramatically through the expansion of the Maternity Partnership with the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services. To accommodate the growing need for prenatal, obstetric and gynecologic services and to provide a single standard of care for all women, onsite OB/GYN Clinics, are located at Holy Cross Hospital and Holy Cross Germantown Hospital.
Patients served by the Maternity Partnership lack the ability to obtain health insurance. If not for the OB/GYN Clinics, many women might not receive the appropriate care needed to ensure a healthy mother and child.
Women enter the OB/GYN Clinics for prenatal care at any point during pregnancy, though most have nine visits leading up to their delivery. Many patients are not native English speakers, therefore staff members are bilingual to provide culturally competent quality care. Holy Cross Health also offers an extensive perinatal education program that includes classes in Spanish, as well as home care follow-up programs for uninsured women.
